Can you believe that summer is just around the corner? Before you know it, Memorial Day Weekend will have come and gone and families will be ready to kick off their summer vacations.
If you own a vacation home, now’s the time to start getting it ready for the summer. Whether you rent your property out to guests or stay there yourself, begin stocking up on necessities and plan a trip out there in the next few weeks if you can.
Here are some helpful tips so that you have all your bases covered.
Deep clean the house
If your property has been sitting there mostly unused during the offseason, it’s probably in need of a deep cleaning. Depending on the size of your summer home, you may want to consider hiring a professional cleaning service. Use this time to take note of any cleaning supplies that may need to be replaced.
Stock the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen
In a vacation home, bedding and bath linens may need to be refreshed annually—especially if you rent out your property to many guests. The good news is that it’s possible to find good quality bed sheets, summer quilt sets and bath towels for a reasonable price.
While you’re at it, you’ll also want to check the kitchen to make sure you still have full sets of dinnerware, glasses and flatware.
Perform routine maintenance
No one wants to find out the hard way that their air conditioner is broken. This also goes for appliances like the stove and refrigerator, plus important safety items like the smoke detector and door locks. To avoid any fiascos once you or your guests move in, check to see if all your appliances and electronics are working properly and arrange to have them repaired if necessary.
Add the finishing touches
It’s the little things that will set your summer home apart from others. Make a good first impression by getting the outside of your property in tip top shape. Mow the lawn, plant flowers, paint the door if it’s in need of a fresh coat. You can even do something as simple as adding a festive seasonal welcome mat.
It may seem like a lot of work up front, but once summer is here, you’ll be glad that you got all of this out of the way well in advance. Just think…more time to relax and enjoy yourself when you’ll want to the most!
